Dr. Katy Richard Owens grew up in Crosby, Texas in a Cuban-American family and is fluent in Spanish.
Dr. Owens graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and then
earned her doctorate of optometry from the University of Houston, College of Optometry. She is a
licensed Therapeutic Optometrist and is certified as a Glaucoma Specialist. Dr. Owens has been in the
optometry field since 2003, when she started working for her family optometrist.
Dr. Owens had clinical training at La Nueva Casa de Amigos and Good Neighbor Healthcare Clinic in
Houston. Her interests include the treatment of acute and chronic ocular disease including diabetes,
glaucoma, surgical co-management, uveitis, keratoconus, and dry eyes. She is passionate about
preventative eye care to patients of all ages including pediatrics. She has participated in the city of
Houston See to Succeed program since 2011 providing eye exams and glasses to school aged children
in need. She is a member of the Harris County Optometric Society. Dr. Owens’ devotion to the profession
of optometry extended into teaching as an Adjunct Clinical Faculty at the University Of Houston College
When she is not at Texas State Optical Kingwood, Dr. Owens enjoys spending time with friends and
family. She does not like to cook, but enjoys trying new restaurants with her husband. She likes her cars fast and loud and dreams of owning a Hemi ‘Cuda. Dr. Owens likes to unwind on the weekends watching
movies and hanging out with her senior dogs. Although proud dog parents, Dr. Owens and her husband
are expanding their family and expecting their first child in March 2018.
